Photo: Nick Saglimbeni for the Kardashians

That Kendall Jenner, the tall leggy brunette in a silk taffeta skirt at left in the above photo, might actually have a career in modeling, is the most promising thing about the Kardashian family’s Christmas card. The blue tinted portrait—which looks extra funny because it’s meant to be viewed with 3D glasses—separates the Kardashians into vignettes: the young ones are grouped at left, the matriarch is in the middle (the only one wearing color), and the right is split according to the Kardashian sister families.  Kim stands in the middle, alone. The newly single reality TV star said, “I love our family Christmas cards shoots and I think this one looks amazing!”  What do you think? Click through to see the rest.

Among the many reasons Marc Jacobs said no to leading the house of Dior? He thinks couture is “archaic.” Jacobs said that though he considered the position, and was flattered to be asked, he’s happy at Vuitton. “I’ve been saying that for a long time,” he said. “There have been on-and-off conversations about Dior. I don’t know; maybe someday in the future, maybe years from now, I may end up going someplace else, maybe Dior. But right now I am at Vuitton.” Talks between Jacobs and Dior were said to have broken down in September, for reasons as varied as money, staffing and aesthetic, but Jacobs makes the discussions sound more casual than the media believed. His name has been replaced with Raf Simons’, who’s currently at Jil Sander.  One reason the fashion pack’s rooting for Sander is his obvious interest in couture, as demonstrated by his last two collections. It sounds like Jacobs couldn’t be less interested in the art of couture: “The idea of couture doesn’t hold that thing for me. It’s archaic—in my opinion. I mean, I am really interested in the craftsmanship behind couture. But I can explore all that in ready-to-wear. With couture, one dress each season is photographed by a couple of magazines; there’s no advertising; it reaches 20 customers. I don’t feel there is anything lacking in what we do. I get to work with these amazing craftsmen. Maybe not the same ateliers that would make a couture dress, but, again, we are not in a deficit for working with people who create beautiful things. I am not sure I ever looked at couture as this great opportunity.” If Simons is in fact the next Dior designer, here’s hoping an announcement’s made before the end of the year.

The Final Look From HONOR's Pre-Fall Collection

Manhattan’s mussed-up society girls have come to love t-shirts that moonlight as eveningwear—especially swans who socialize on both sides of the city’s 59th Street (14th Street?) equator. Keeping these discerning party-hoppers in mind Giovanna Randall delivered a few in her pre-fall collection for fledging label, HONOR. It may look like just another smart crewneck at first, but a closer look at this ensemble tells a more elaborate story and it’s the shorn and shirred fabric along the skirt that lends the ensemble its charm. ”It’s a very special textile from Switzerland where they sewed black chiffon onto tulle. The tulle is an ombrè so it’s incredibly different. I found it at one of my favorite mills; it’s a place where I really gather inspiration,” Randall explained. Befittingly,  this “red carpet show piece,” look is not without HONOR’s signature arts & crafts influence. The t-shirt that keeps this outfit’s fussiness in check was embellished by the HONOR ladies themselves. ”I hand painted it with my design assistant,” Randall enthused. ”The collection’s inspiration was a paint box—a woman getting into her paint and putting it everywhere…” Mission accomplished. Photo: H&M

H&M‘s hooked up with many award winning designers, but they’ve just scored their first partnership with an Oscar nominated director. Sofia Coppola‘s directing both the print and film campaign for the brand’s collaboration with Marni. A spokesperson for H&M told WWD that Coppola, along with Marni’s Creative Director Consuelo Castiglioni, represent their “true dream team.” The two shot the film in Morocco in October, way before the collaboration was even announced, and Coppola’s directing the print campaign in the film’s image. The short will play in movie theaters, as well as online and international TV and the print ads will pop up in all of the expected places. No one’s spilled who’s starring, but Elle Fanning was spotted wearing Marni the other day…

There was some serious competition for hottest Golden Globe Nominee on the 2012  Nomination List released today, but when it came to our Crush of the Week, there was a clear winner. Joseph Gordon-Levitt, nominated for Best Actor in Comedy for his role in 50/50 as Adam, a cancer patient with a 50/50 chance of survival, has been filling our eye candy appetite for years, and making a name for himself as a super talented Hollywood staple. Involved in acting since childhood, Levitt took a break from performing to attend Columbia University, where he studied French Poetry, History, and Literature (brains and brawn, anybody?). This isn’t his first Golden Globe nomination: his role as a hopeless romantic in love with a hard-hearted realist in (500) Days of Summer earned him his first  Best Actor in a Comedy nomination last year. He’s also been nominated for MTV, People’s and Teen Choice Awards. His smooth moves in the role of role of suave, well-dressed “point man” in 2010′s Inception as earning him nods for Best Kiss, Best Fight, and Best Breakout Actor. Having proven his skill as a funny man, and an action star, Levitt will be starring in two major blockbusters next summer. In Premium Rush, slated for release in late July, he plays a bike messenger with a serious need for speed on the run from the cops. He’ll also be appearing in The Dark Knight Rising, as a young police office working with Commissioner Gordon. We don’t know about you, but we definitely won’t be missing the chance to see this heartthrob at full speed and in full uniform. Don’t forget to put the Golden Globes on your calendar! On January 15th, 2012, we’ll be glued to our TV’s, hoping for a glimpse of our “Crush of the Week” on the red carpet.

Chanel Iman at Belle & Clive's launch. Photo: BFA

Chanel Iman has been on a roll these past two months. Shortly after her turn on the Victoria’s Secret Runway in November, the model decamped to an island near Jamaica where she celebrated her 21st birthday with a reggae-themed party in the company of friends. ”After the VS show it’s all about me—me and my birthday, everyone knows it,”  she told us at the launch for Belle & Clive, a new members-only shopping site that’s run by Bluefly.com. Iman was the evening’s host at a party where guests were treated to a sneak-preview of the website that launched yesterday. ”I’ve played around with it before tonight, and when I see something new that I really like I want to be a part of it,” Iman said of her involvement, just before choosing a color-blocked YSL leather tote as her gift for the evening. “It will be perfect for trips to the beach, it matches all of my really cute Missoni bikinis,” she giddily exclaimed in a fit of springy leaps. Alas, it’s nice to know that even VS Angels still appreciate some highfalutin swag. Belle & Clive launches today, request membership by clicking here

Raf Simons after Saturday's Jil Sander show. Photo: Getty Images

Three months ago, Raf Simons was allegedly on his way to YSL and Marc Jacobs was readying to sign on the dotted line of a major Dior contract. Now, Marc’s staying put at Louis Vuitton and it sounds like Simons will make the move to Dior. In October, Dior’s CEO Sidney Toledano told Vanessa Friedman at the Financial Times that he knew they’d have to appoint a Creative Director for the house before the year’s end—less than three weeks away. Today, WWD reports that LVMH is working out the final details of a contract with Simons. He’ll have to dissolve his recently extended contract with Jil Sander first, and work out a start date. Neither Dior or Simons has commented, but it’s a partnership the fashion world would love to see. Simons’ modernism and couture-like skills would be a perfect match for (and balance with) the history of the house of Dior. Hopefully today’s news leak doesn’t get in the way of an agreement.

For those of you who can’t wait for the Hunger Games, hitting theaters on March 23rd of next year, Lionsgate films is bringing you one more way to show your District 12 spirit—with nail polish! The collection is called “Colours of the Capitol” and launches on March 1, giving you a month’s worth of Katniss, Cinna, and Gale-inspired colors to flaunt on your fingertips before the movie is released. The Hunger Games-inspired collection first appeared in a leaked photo on the web last month, causing a serious stir. After all three companies involved (Lionsgate, All, and China Glaze) threatened to sue each other for the rights to the collection, the line was declared dead. Now the polish is back, with changes to some names—“Catnip” became “Fast Track,” and “Primrose” is now “Dress Me Up”—but in all the same colors. With natural mattes, subtle metallics, and eye-grabbing, glittering brights, the wide range of colors is sure to please loyal fans of the trilogy and die-hard fans of great nail color.

    Look 4 from Thakoon's Pre-Fall 2012 Collection

Thakoon Panichgul’s pre-fall collection, “started off with fabric, pre-fall really brings to mind classic, quality textiles—something that’s inherently American,” he told us. With one look at this look, you can see just what he means. The ensemble’s monochromatic upper body gives way to a blush a-line skirt, basted with strips of dove-grey mongolian fur. Behind the yellow lipstick, it’s a thoroughly preppy look. As Panichgul said, “fall to me almost means back to school, so we took concepts like cable knit [seen on the shoes above] and reinterpreted them. It’s a youthful sensibility, but definitely has a tomboy side as well.” Click here to check out all of the pre-fall 2012 collections!
