Interview with Silkworms
Hey dolls,
Recently I got a chance to do an interview with amazing designer, Silkworms. Let's learn more about her!
Q: Hi, can you tell us a little bit about yourself?
A: ''Hi everyone :D I'm Bambi, some of my friends call me Bams or Bam, Bam-bam or Bamboo, Bambito, Bambster, feel free to come up with something, lol. I love psychology and art, and I'm hoping to be a mental health practitioner in the near future, as well as a graphic designer on the side or vice versa, I really can't pick. There are always so many options and not enough time or resources, but yeah -- I am really interested in therapy, graphic design, and character design for video games.''
Q: What are your hobbies in real life?
A: ''My hobbies change with whatever chapter in life I'm in, so right now my top 3 hobbies (with Netflix as a default, lol ) include drawing and painting, gaming, and learning how to play the harmonica. I love art and I try to practice whenever I can, though I haven't been on it much these days. With gaming, I love and do a lot of RPGs like 'Mass Effect', 'The Witcher', 'Dragon Age' and im trying to start 'Undertale' after finishing 'Inside.' With the harmonica, i just love how soulful it sounds. Bob Dylan's harmonica solos inspired me to start teaching myself how to play. I want to be able to play it along with my guitar in due time.''Q: What is your favorite store on Stardoll?
A: ''Favorite shop, that's a tough question... I have a hard time picking favorites for anything when there are so many options, but I guess I always make sure to shop from Vinyl, because of the grunge, thrift-store and vintage-type vibes. I also like Bonjour Bizou cause they have some vintage items sometimes, and Nelly because they have some old bohemian threads sometimes.''Q: How did you start designing wigs?
A: ''I started making stuff in 2017, but I was never serious about it. I made a few items here and there on my old account GoldenBambi, but nothing major. I always had silkworms as a secondary account created solely for design purposes, but never used her much. So I started designing seriously around September this year upon losing GB. Figured I might as well design more since I was gonna be using my secondary account from now on. I also got a lot of support from friends and peers to start designing seriously, that helped me start up and has helped me continue. Wouldn't be where I am without people's support, so thanks a bunch to everyone who's been there for me on this journey.''Q: How long does it take you to make designs?
A: ''According to my friends, it doesn't take me very long to make something, and that's partly because I lack patience, lol! The fastest I've done so far must be approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes, and that was the Adut Akech inspired wig, but that's because I already visualized how I wanted it to look and knew what I was going to do to make that happen. Other wigs -- the ones that have straight hair mostly -- have taken me 3 to 4 hours (including breaks, lol). On a similar note, I've been making a wig everyday because I almost always delete designs the same day I make them, and that's because I want to get started on another design as soon as possible.''
Q: What motivates you as a designer?
A: ''The people who have been buying and wearing my wigs, and even those who've just stopped by my suite to drop some positive feedback, they all motivate me to push myself, do better, and continue designing stuff. I've been really shook by how open people have been to my designs and I'll forever be grateful for all the support. On a different note, another thing that motivates me to keep designing is the challenge of finding different ways to work with colors and hair pieces. Each wig I worked on has given me an opportunity to learn something, and that's really cool.''Q: How would you describe your personal style?
A: ''Back in 2017, I was such a hippie flower child as some would describe me. I wore flower crowns almost always, raggedy locks, feathers for jewelry, barely any shoes (I collected sneakers which I barely wore -- which is still the case now, lol) and just a lot of garments that felt vintage-ish and earth-friendly. These days, I wear pretty much anything or nothing :D haha! I'm always trying different styles and experimenting, but leaning more towards athleisure, sneakers and one-pieces because I rarely pull out an outfit lol.''
Q: What is your favorite color?
A: ''Favorites are hard for me like I said earlier, and because of it whenever I'm asked what my fave color is, I usually say transparent or clear with an iridescent effect (kinda like holographic) and it's true, I love that effect, but I also have to say I've been liking how amber looks, especially during fall when the leaves turn a gorgeous honey-yellow. That's pretty.''Here are some wig designs Silkworms has created that I want to show you:
