Exam Tips: Preparation

77 maanden geleden

Hi Dollies!

If you're studying in Australia, you are probably aware that high-schoolers are heading into Term 3 soon, where our yearlies are steadily approaching, and university students are also wrapping up their first semester. I’ve been gathering as many sources and strategies as I can for efficient studying, and I’d like to share what I’ve learnt!

1. Procrastination

It’s simple: don’t do it. But I have a reason other than that once you study, you don’t have to worry about that task anymore (although that is still quite valid). The earlier you start preparing, the clearer the content that you’ve learnt in class will be in your head. This not only means you finish earlier, you also study less!

2. Organizing a set of notes

It’s very helpful to have a comprehensive set of notes rather than reading directly from the textbook. You revise/relearn your work during this process, but keep this process short!

3. Committing to memory

I was subject to making the mistake of only reading and highlighting as my study. However, this is a very inefficient way of studying. Rather, make use of your auditory and kinaesthetic skills too. It targets more areas of your brain, including the long term memory section. You can still highlight, but take it further by applying your key words into a phrase of your own words.

4. Past papers

I can’t stress enough how important these are. There are fact or recall questions, but also method or application and extension-style questions cannot be achieved without practice. Plus it gives you more confidence when you know you can do them!

Do you have any helpful tips?

Take care,

♡ Joanne
