This year’s CFDA Awards offered a slew of creative looks—Gaga’s spikes, Karolina’s sequined hood, Daphne’s mantilla-like crown—but it was Miranda Kerr’s black Michael Kors gown that had our heads swiveling. She only gave birth to baby Flynn five months ago, and it takes mad skills to make those cut outs look classy, let alone black tie appropriate.  Also, we thought, for a second, she was wearing a swimsuit. She’s not actually. (It’s MK resort, despite reports to the contrary).  But the idea’s not so far fetched.  For one thing, Kors makes a similar looking swimsuit (minus a few inches of fabric) as well as one that, from the waist up, looks almost exactly like the most photographed Lanvin dress of the season. Meanwhile, one piece swimsuits have enjoyed the spotlight for at least two summers now.  Silhouettes have become more flattering and designs more detailed while long skirts, prairie, sheer, full and otherwise have enjoyed a similarly retro resurgence, so pairing them together, well, we get why people thought maybe Kerr had, too.
