Carnival season is here, bringing excitement, music, and dazzling celebrations across the world! 🌎

Did you know Carnival dates back over 700 years? It originally marked the days leading up to Lent, allowing people to indulge in feasts, dance, and costumes before a period of fasting. Today, it's a global phenomenon filled with joy, tradition, and creativity!

Here are some must-know Carnival celebrations happening around the world:

Oruro Carnival, Bolivia – Declared a Masterpiece of Oral and Intangible Heritage by UNESCO, this festival is known for its colorful costumes, Andean folk dances, and the famous Diablada (Dance of the Devils), a stunning performance symbolizing the battle between good and evil.

Cádiz Carnival, Spain – One of the most humorous Carnivals, where satirical performances and comedy groups fill the streets with laughter. The "Chirigotas" (musical ensembles) create funny, often political songs that entertain crowds day and night.

Aalst Carnival, Belgium – A UNESCO-listed event, this celebration features giant-headed puppets, a satirical parade, and costumes that break all the rules! The tradition of "Voil Jeanetten" (men dressing in over-the-top, eccentric drag) is a playful and beloved part of the event.

Salvador, Brazil – Known as the world’s largest street party, Salvador’s Carnival is famous for its "trio elétrico", giant moving sound trucks where top Brazilian artists perform live as millions of people dance behind them in the streets. Instead of traditional parades, everyone becomes part of the show!

Recife & Olinda, Brazil – Home to the lively "Galo da Madrugada", the world’s largest Carnival parade, which starts at dawn with over 2 million people dancing to the beats of frevo and maracatu music. Olinda’s hilly streets fill with giant puppet dolls (Bonecos de Olinda) and colorful, handmade costumes!
