Ever wonder what a designer does all day? We asked Raquel Allegra what it’s like coming back to the office—and back to reality—after her recent trip to Paris.
9:00AM
Just back from Paris after two incredible weeks! I’m excited to see everything that was done for the summer collection while I was away. New fabrics have arrived for fall 2012. In the office, we start cutting swatches and post to boards. I love this part!
10:00AM
Give the new gauze fabric to Jaime to get started on first samples. All the fabrics feel so dreamy!
11:00AM
My dear friend and stylist Djuna Bel visits the studio to check out our summer collection and pull some pieces for an ELLE photo shoot tomorrow.
11:30AM
I get a call from my fiancé, who’s in NYC producing Lady Gaga’s new video!
1:00PM
Urth Café for lunch—but still working! The team finishes our summer mood boards while eating and Anton sketches new ideas I have for the crinkle fabric.

Go over new tie-dye experiments with the team and schedule some time tomorrow to meet with the artists who are hand-tie-dying and finalize details.
3:00PM
It’s fitting time with our production manager, which means the final hours we’ll spend on spring before production actually starts—our last chance to make it perfect! In between try-ons, I skip-out for a quick walk with my dogs, ‘lil Fini and Brown.

In the middle of more fittings, I pow-wow with my business partner about selling the spring collection and a picture of Natasha Poly wearing one of my tees during Paris fashion week pops up—so hot!
6:00PM
Phone call with our photographer about the summer photo shoot which is now just two weeks away. I start styling the pieces that are ready and decide we need more color so I send an email to dye-house and ask them to please hurry!
7:00PM
It’s late and I’m too tired to even leave. Hand-binding the spring lookbook and dreaming about Paris. I post the video I took at Versailles on Tumblr and go home—it’s good to be back.
