We Were Liars: Book Review Pt.2

il y a 92 mois

Hey lovelies!

Some of you asked me to do a full review of this book. So, here it is!

Cadence Eastman Sinclair is a privileged teen. Her mom is one of the three daughters of Harris Sinclair, a man wealthy enough to own an island called Beechwood. She lives with her mom who is divorced.

Cadence, or Cady as she is called in the book, is the main and only narrator of the story. She has several cousins, but the most notable ones are Johnny and Mirren. Gat is her uncle’s nephew who later on becomes her boyfriend. These four are the “Liars” mentioned in the title. The storyline revolves around them.

The Sinclairs vacation on Beechwood every year, period. The story starts with Cadence going to vacation with her dad instead of going to Beechwood. What’s more is that Cadence has no memories of the past two years of her life. She suffers from amnesia. All she remembers is that she had an accident two summers before on the island but she doesn’t remember the details. The information given to her by her family does not seem to fit together, but why are they hiding the truth?

You guessed it! This is the main plot. The book was slow paced. The chilling details of pain are repeated way too often and unnecessary anecdotes have been added to lengthen the story. The best part is the end which is unimaginable and the only asset which makes this book worth reading.

If you read, say the first 10 pages and then the final 5 pages, you would pretty much get it. Hence, I give this book 2.5/5 stars.
