5-Minute Beauty: The Milkmaid Braid

Sorry Kardashians, the Beckerman sisters are the hottest new it-sibs, and they’ve got an edgy indie style to prove it. They’ve risen to fame thanks to their daily style blog, Beckerman Bite Plate, and have collabed with brands like Nine West, H&M, and Uniqlo. In one of the site’s latest updates, Caillieanne Beckerman looked country-cute, twisting her hair into a lovely milkmaid braid. Don’t get distracted by this style’s name- this braided hairstyle isn’t just for farm girls. In fact, it’s been seen on some of our favorite, glamorous celebrities, from Elle Fanning to Drew Barrymore, Zoe Saldana to Mary-Kate Olsen, Nicole Richie to Lauren Conrad… the list just goes on and on.

The best part? It’s super easy to recreate. Having a bad hair day? Even better! Dirty, messy hair twists into an adorable, bohemian up-do with this style.
1. Divide hair in half with a center part (don’t tuck behind your ears!).
2. Braid each half to the tip, leaving a few front strands loose to frame your face (p.s. for an even more unique look, try fishtail braids!).
3. Starting on one side, lift the braid from the end and fold over towards opposite ear, secure with bobby pins.
4. Do the same with the other braid, laying it over the first one.
5. At your part, tuck the second braid beneath the first one so the end is hidden, secure with bobby pins.
6. With a curling iron, add a bit of wave to the front, loose-hanging strands.
7. Spray all over with a loose hair-spray so everything stays in place.
