FEMINISM: Explained and Answered

hace 93 meses

Hey lovelies!

When I was writing my post titled "Should we all be Feminists?", I knew that there was going to be opposition, but I honestly did not imagine that it would turn into such mayhem!

Coming to the dynamite of a word called “feminism” and talking about it.

It was the view of some that feminism should be replaced with neutral words like “equalism” so that they don’t look one-sided. One of Shakespeare’s famous line says "What’s there in a name?” and I totally agree. Both feminism and equalism to me stand for equality.  The point is renaming this movement would mean that we overlook the concept on which it was initially based on; it would also mean that we ignore all those women of the past who rallied and suffered for it.

A section of people thought it was improper of me to quote Emma Watson since she supports ‘white feminism’. I honestly don’t know what she supports, I just liked what she said and those were the exact words I wanted to write. But, she was the one to whom those sentences belong and I couldn’t have gone without giving her credit.

Some complained that my feminism wasn’t inclusive. Well, I really thought that I wrote for all women (black, white etc). I just feel that they all just come into the definition of a woman and there was no need to point out.

And the best of all were the ones saying that I was imposing my beliefs. No, Iwasn’t. I was just sharing my thoughts on a subject. Unfortunately, I forgot to write that I THINK “we should all be feminists”.
