Studio 54
Today's post is inspired by Studio 54 - one of New York's most famous nightclub during the 70's, with VIP guests such as Cher, Jerry Hall, Grace Jones and Pat Cleveland (to name a few) providing us with perfect 70's Disco fashion. This trend was all about the glamour, with fur coats, sultry dresses with plunging necklines, gold-lamé and sequins.
For my first outfit, I chose a green velvet Gucci gown from the latest LE collection. This dress is perfect for the look, with plunging neckline, flowing shape (to allow lots of movement for dancing!) and plush velvet fabric. It's totally something we would've seen on Donna Summer or Diana Ross! I kept the rest of the look simple with chandelier earrings, a pendant necklace to accentuate the neckline and some silver platforms. My second look included this jumpsuit, perfect for dressing up or down. Of course, dressing up is key with this look, so I chose mega-platforms, a plush fur coat and pendant necklace.
Event planner Robert Isabell even had four tonnes of glitter scattered over the floor of Studio 54 during a New Year's Eve party, leaving glitter that could be found months later in partygoers' clothes, and described as 'standing on stardust' by the club's owner!
To highlight this, my last two looks are very glittery! I opted for flares, but I think a flowing maxi-skirt works too. I paired them with some sequin tops, and a fur coat. Natural fur colours were the popular choice (even for the Disco trend), but I wanted to update it with some fun colours and glitter strands in the fur. Lastly, I couldn't resist some more chandelier earrings and again, I styled my looks with platforms.
