Chanel might be the only brand that hasn’t jumped on fashion’s crazy cat bandwagon, but that may not hold true for long. This weekend, Stephen Gan tweeted a picture of Karl Lagerfeld’s new Ragdoll kitten. Her name is Choupette and she’s adorable—even in front of that unbelievably picturesque bouquet of roses.

- Photo: Courtesy of Bebaroque, CocorosaWhen we saw Lady Gaga’s rhinestone studded tights on New Year’s Eve, we had flashbacks to the Miu Miu, Zac Posen, and Doo.ri tights from their fall 2009 collections. The look is back this winter as a great way to add a glam pop to any outfit. If you’re like us, you don’t have $216 to spend on a pair of embellished tights—luckily, a tight budget’s never stopped an ELLEgirl. Whether you like your tights ripped to the point of destruction, or sweet and girlie, you can make this look work for you with our DIY guide, inspired by some of the best fashion bloggers out there. You’ll need: a pair of tights, a needle and thread, and embellishments of your choice: our favorites are sequins, seed beads, and rhinestones. You can also use lace trim (the kind you find at craft stores), silk flowers, or cut outs from a different garment.Photo: Courtesy of Park & CubeStep One: Put on your tights! It’s much easier to sew when you’re wearing them, and you won’t have to worry about your beads or gems tearing off when the tights stretch to fit your legs. (Hint: If you decide to unleash your DIY skills on a pair of plain tights, you can add your embellishments at random. If you want to use a pair that come with a pattern, sew onto the thickest part of the design.)Photo: Courtesy of PeachTreeSupplies Opaque sequins, .2 oz for $2.Step Two (Sequins/Beads): Begin sewing on your sequins or beads. Hold you embellishment in place and slide your needle through the hole(s), securing it onto your tights. Thread the needle back through the whole(s) and tie a strong double knot. (Hint: If you’re sewing on beads or sequins, you’ll want to attach them in clusters of four or five at a time, tying your knot after you’ve secured each cluster.)Photo: Courtesy of ALLURIS ALLURIS 12mm crystals, 28 for $10.Step Three (Crystals): Sewing on heavy crystals is a little bit more tricky. Hold your crystal in place and thread your needle through the hole(s) and your tights, securing them in place. Loop the thread around each crystal at least twice, since they are heavier and make smaller clusters of about two or three. (Hint: Don’t sew your embellishments on places where your legs are likely to brush, like the inner thigh, knee, and ankle area.)Photo: Courtesy of CocorosaIt can take anywhere between two and five hours to finish embellishing a pair of tights, depending on the intricacy of your pattern and your skill with a needle and thread. Don’t worry if the legs aren’t perfectly symmetrical, half the appeal of this style comes from the whimsical, free-spirit feel. After you’re pleased with the level of bling, slide on your one-of-a-kind tights and be prepared to share the steps with admirers.

In this weekend’s New York Times story about Hollywood’s “power stylists” there’s a little nugget of interesting news: Kate Bosworth is working on a denim collection with her stylist, Cher Coulter. It’s the second design venture for Bosworth and Coulter. The two kicked off the Mint craze with JewelMint, their monthly jewelry club that sells layerable, feminine costume jewelry at crazy reasonable prices and spawned the Olsens’ BeachMint and Rachel Bilson’s ShoeMint. Last week, JewelMint premiered the first in a series of videos showcasing its collection, shot by Bosworth’s boyfriend, Michael Polish. Since the denim collection is in the works, there’s no word on whether it will launch as a Mint venture, or a totally separate entity, but anything Bosworth touches—fashion wise—seems to turn to gold.

Bioré Twenty-year-old Shailene Woodley, star of ABC’s The Secret Life of the American Teenager, dazzled critics with her role as the eldest daughter in a troubled family in The Descendants, earning a Golden Globe nomination for Best Supporting Actress. She also dazzled everyone who caught a glimpse of her on the red carpet before the event. We got an exclusive look into the mind of Shailene’s makeup artist Gloria Noto, who told us how she worked with Shailene to produce her fresh, bright glow and how you can get the same look at home. How did you and Shailene decide on the makeup for the evening, and how did her dress and personality play a role? We decided on the look as a whole team. Myself, hair, wardrobe, and of course, Shai, all had a fun meeting looking over makeup and hair looks in books and online. Then, of course, Shai’s personality and what she likes are truly what decides. Before anything else—dress, trends, etc.—I wanted Shai to feel like her beautiful self. Did Shailene have any special requests when you two were figuring out the makeup? Yes! Shai knows who she is, in and out, which I admire so much. She knows things about herself that she loves to emphasize, like her skin and eyes. She always loves to have a subtle contour on her cheekbones but likes everything else to be clean. She also loves mascara. She wanted to achieve a look that appeared to be easy and light, yet flawless for the red carpet. She didn’t want to look too made-up, since her dress was such a huge statement. What products did you use to achieve the look? On her skin, I used Biore’s new Combination Skin Balancing Cleanser. I love it because it cleanses oily skin without stripping the drier areas. Then I added a natural moisturizer to prep her face for makeup. Next, I used a tinted foundation that had a light, dewy finish. On the eyes I used the Chanel Mystic Eyes Eyeshadow Quad. This quad has neutral grey and pewter tones that gives a beautiful defused look. I buffed Chanel Rouge Coco lip color in Destinee on her lips to give a subtle plum stain, then applied the Chanel Rouge Coco Lip Baume on top. I used the Rose Marie Swift cream highlighter on her cheekbones and her inner eyes to add a soft glow. Black Chanel mascara was used on her top and bottom lashes. A translucent powder was applied down the center of her face so she wouldn’t look overly dewy. Did you give Shailene any products to tuck away in her purse for touch-ups? The only thing I gave Shai was the Chanel Lip Baum to hydrate her pout, and a disposable mascara wand to brush her eyebrows right before she exited her car and stepped onto the red carpet.

Who knew New York would prove to the be the least stubborn fashion capital? The almost year-long debate over which spring 2013 fashion week would be when has finally ended thanks to New York’s decision (and London’s agreement) to move their shows up by a week. The catfight started when New York and London claimed a calendar decision made three years ago in a meeting of the four fashion councils was in fact a three year agreement. Milan claimed otherwise and refused to push their show dates later in September. As a result, Milan and London would have overlapped by three days—one publishing company went so far as to reprimand Milan by swearing none of their editors would attend the city’s major shows. Thankfully, that’s been avoided. The dates will be as follows: New York Fashion Week, September 6 through September 13; London Fashion Week September 14 through September 18; Milan Fashion Week, September 18 through September 25, and Paris Fashion Week will run from September 25 through October 2. Steven Kolb, the CFDA’s CEO gave Milan a slight slap on the wrist through his praise of New York and London in today’s WWD, “People are anxious and need to know the dates. There’s no value for the cities to compete. In the spirit of working together, London and New York are in agreement that we will go in the earlier period, but with the hope that the four cities will come out of this confusion and work together to plan future show weeks. We need to begin to look at the fashion season not as individual fashion weeks, but very much as a global business.”

Michelle Williams had a Marilyn moment of her own when she stopped by “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno” last week, turning heads in a smart and chic Jason Wu frock as she promoted her new Monroe biopic, My Week With Marilyn. Williams charmed the audience with tales of how she prepared for the role of the troubled 1950s sex symbol, and her outfit was just as praiseworthy as her convincing performance in the film. The actress looked clean-cut in a stunning peplum dress from Jason Wu’s Spring 2012 collection, paired with Fendi patent leather bow-front pumps. Williams wore minimal accessories and let the Swarovski elements on her dress provide all the sparkle and shine. Her makeup was sweet and simple as well: a berry color on her lips and orange polish on her fingernails. A touch of heavy mascara on her lashes added a bit of boldness. - Photo: Splash NewsWe were big fans of all the lace we saw on the shining starlets at the People’s Choice Awards this year. From Kristin Bell in fierce, fiery Valentino to Miley Cyrus in futuristic cream colored David Koma with a plunging mesh neckline, to Nina Dobrev’s glowing green Elie Saab mini, we were loving the intricate lace and mesh detail. Check out the do’s (and don’t's) of emulating this sophisticated red carpet trend below! How to Rock this Trend: Do…go bold. This is not your grandmother’s lace wedding dress. Look for deep, bright, eye-popping colors, like the magenta frock below.Photo: Courtesy of Oasis Oasis lace frock, $45. Don’t…turn down long sleeves. With lace, long sleeves aren’t dowdy, they’re ultra-elegant.Photo: Courtesy of Zara Zara lace dress,$60. Do…embrace clever cut-outs. Back, front, side…this trend welcomes all angles.Photo: Courtesy of Missle Fridge Bengaline cut-out dress, $68. Don’t…be scared to take a plunge. A low neckline concealed in mesh or lace is daring without being over the top.Photo: Courtesy of Asos Pixie Lott mesh dress, $76. Do…say yes to texture. Sequins, glitter and embellishments on the body of the dress draw attention to the details of mesh cut-outs or accents.Photo: Courtesy of The House of Fraser Lipsy sleeveless dress, $89 Don’t…forget to love your curves. This trend aims to flatter your figure by drawing attention to your curves while also keeping you (somewhat) covered. Look for dresses that hug and fit your form.Photo: Courtesy of Top Shop Top Shop wrap dress, $39. Do…lay off the accessories. The intricacies of lace and mesh dresses add enough contrast and visual drama so leave flashy jewelry, shoes and bags at home. A simple pendant necklace is just enough (like the model in the below picture proves).Photo: Courtesy of AsosASOS lace dress, $72

- Now that we’re up to our ankles in awards season, we admit we look forward to seeing who’s wearing what more than who’s winning what. - Just last week Simon Doonan mentioned his high hopes for the red carpets of 2012: “I’m hoping that we reach some kind of critical period where people do let it rip…We haven’t had anything fun in ages.” Doonan’s dreams may have been answered thanks to a slew of sartorial stars doubling as nominated actresses. This week alone saw three awards shows and enough winning red carpet looks to make us worry about what will be left come Oscar weekend. The National Board of Review Awards Gala kicked things off in New York City. Carey Mulligan shook things up in an ombre fringe belted dress from Lanvin’s resort 2012 collection, and Felicity Jones pulled off an effortless Fellini-esque look thanks to Dolce & Gabbana. The following day, at the People’s Choice Awards, Ginnifer Goodwin stole the spotlight in a neon pink bell-sleeve dress from Brit designer Roksanda Ilincic—any celeb brave enough to rock neon on the red carpet deserves a thumbs-up. And last night, at the Critic’s Choice Awards, the ladies brought out the big guns: Charlize Theron donned a couture Alaia gown; Diane Kruger showed us all how the Prada spring 2012 collection will be interpreted into red carpet dresses instead of runway leotards (thank god!); Michelle Williams opted for an elegant black and white Chanel number from the resort collection; Elle Fanning brought a boho edge in Rodarte; Jessica Chastain complemented her fiery red hair with a coral Balenciaga; red carpet rookie Shailene Woodley proved she’s fit to be a contender for best dressed this season in a Calvin Klein collection gown, and Emma Stone proved her style prowess in a Jason Wu pre-fall look that debuted just weeks ago. Fingers crossed they keep up their momentum at this weekend’s Golden Globes! backnext Ginnifer Goodwin in Roksanda Illincic.
