LVMH Wants Phoebe Philo for Vuitton & Céline

It's apparently Kanye day here at ELLE.com. If Marc Jacobs really does make a move to Christian Dior, who will take over Louis Vuitton? The storied French luggage maker owes its ready-to-wear reputation to Jacobs, who was asked to turn Vuitton into a lifestyle brand in 1997. Since then, Jacobs’ clothes have held their own against inimitable accessories—and we’re not just talking about logo bags—and become celebrity favorites. The Vuitton show in Paris has become as anticipated as Jacobs’ own in New York and, though it traditionally closes the season, sets the tone for trends to come. Rumor has it Bernard Arnault, the owner and president of LVMH, favors Phoebe Philo for the job. So desperate was Arnault to get Philo to join his stable of stars that three years ago, he offered her anything. Philo chose to reinvent Céline instead launching her own eponymous label and quickly turned the dusty house into fashion’s favorite.  Now, WWD reports that Arnault would like her to creatively direct Louis Vuitton—while also leading the team at Céline. It sounds like an impossibly huge responsibility to lead both, quite disparate brands, though there’s no doubt the fashion world can’t get enough of Philo. Guess all that talk of over-working designers was little more than just that!
