Learn more about Radhika Balakrishnan and Julie Salthouse

Radhika Balakrishnan is the Executive Director of the Center for Women's Global Leadership and Professor, Women's and Gender Studies.

She has a
Ph.D. in Economics from Rutgers University and was a Professor of Economics and International Studies at Marymount Manhattan College.

She is currently the
Chair of the Board of the US Human Rights Network and on the Board of the Center for Constitutional Rights.

Professor Balakrishnan's work focuses on gender and development, the global economy, human, economic and social rights. She has edited and authored books and numerous articles (recently including The Huffington Post) on human rights and the global economy and has been interviewed on media including Democracy Now, BBC World, and CNN International.


Julie Ann Salthouse is the Program Coordinator of the 16 Days Campaign, and other projects related to violence against women and militarism, at the Center for Women’s Global Leadership. 

She has a Master’s degree in Women’s and Gender Studies from Rutgers University, where she also is a part-time lecturer of women’s and gender studies.  Her master’s thesis focused on girls’ leadership development, public speaking, and youth activism.

Previously, Ms. Salthouse served as Chapter Director at Girls Learn International, where she managed a human rights-service learning program across the U.S. She is also co-editor of the online journal Films for the Feminist Classroom, and is a certified English teacher.
