Counting My Blessings Today

Last weekend wasn't a very good one for me. On my way home from work, I lost control of my car on an icy road, and I ended up rolling over in a ditch. The car was ruined, I was very scared...but I was also barely injured. The doctor said I probably had a minor concussion given the circumstances, but I had almost no symptoms and felt pretty much back to normal after a few days' rest.

Overall, I was very lucky that nothing was worse than it was. I was lucky that I was able to call for help and see a doctor right away. I was lucky that my family is in a situation where losing a car isn't the end of the world, and I'm lucky to have parents whose only concern is my safety, not the state of the car. I take these things for granted, usually, and I shouldn't, because not everyone has them.

It shouldn't take a traumatic event to make us aware of our blessings. Look around you. You're reading this post on a mobile device, so you have access to technology and internet. That's lucky. Are you in a safe place? Are there people you love nearby? Take a minute to be grateful for these things, especially if you live in a first-world country like me and are used to having these things all the time. Count your blessings, and try to be a blessing in someone else's life, whether you donate money to a charity, or just listen to a friend who's having a hard time.

Have you counted your blessings lately?

Til next time!
