If you’re like us, you’ve already rid your grandmother’s closet of its vintage gems.  You’ve taken scarves, bags, skirts and maybe even blouses, but avoided that padded wall of Easy-Spirit shoes. But now, according to the London shows we’ve seen so far, that closet holds another trendy stockpile of accessories. Footwear for the AARP set is now equally fit for the fashionable jet set and have topped off sharp suits and girly dresses all week long. Thomas Tait’s brigade of minimal warriors wore immaculate running shoes while J.W. Anderson worked utility sneakers (with golf shoe accents) into his collection. At ACNEand Fashion East, white nurse clogs were a quirky foil to soft organza skirts and dresses. Aquascutum also offset their flowy fare with some senior flair: a pointed loafer in that inimitable bone suede. Scottish darling Christopher Kane took note from Prada Sport’s popular 90′s styles and paired his tailored femininity with clunky flat sandals.

While this look remains on the cutting edge, it’s important to pair orthopedic styles with modern clothes, either structured and streamlined or girlish and airy for a balance—avoid shoulder pads and high-waist jeans at all costs!
