If you haven’t heard of Joséphine de la Baume yet, it shouldn’t be too long before you do. The French actress and model has many exciting projects coming up, including a wedding to DJ/music producer Mark Ronson. De la Baume’s the face of Agent Provocateur and Mango, and stars in the next Xan Cassavetes movie as well as Confession of a Child of the Century with Pete Doherty and Charlotte Gainsbourg.

There’s more still: she’ll release her first album next fall with dream pop band SingTank which she co-fronts with her brother Alexandre. The 26-year-old has both an atypical beauty and a forthright sensuality, and combines her elegance à la Française with an edgy sense of style, a style she describes as “dreamcore”: Part dreamy, part hardcore, all feminine.

We caught up with the multi-talented de la Baume to chat about her music, style and a girl’s most crucial decision: her wedding dress.

ELLE: You sing, act and model. How do you combine the three?

JdlB: I work a lot. When I am not doing one, I am doing the other. I can’t complain, they are all exciting.

ELLE: Do you plan on pursuing all three careers?

JdlB: Yes, very much so. Acting and making music are quite complementary. Acting relies on someone else’s writing and direction, writing music or lyrics doesn’t. But they are both creative and personal in completely different ways. Modeling is something I get offered to do because I do these other two professions.

ELLE: You sing in a band and are engaged to Mark Ronson—has music always had an important place in your life?

JdlB: I grew up with classical music blasting in my parents’ living room and my older brother’s practicing saxophone in his room listening to jazz….a beautiful chaos.

ELLE: How did the project with your band SingTank start?

JdlB: My little brother and I took piano lessons at a young age and played music together later on in life just to play around at home until we decided to make a record. Eventually we started having more and more songs. Thinking we could make something of it but not knowing if we had the magic, I sent some tracks to Nellee Hooper, who I knew, simply to get an opinion. His reaction was bigger than we expected. He said, “Come to the studio now, let’s make a record!” We were really excited. Then we got signed with Warner label and Because publishing and here we are with a record we are really proud of. It will be released this fall, following a few singles coming out around the summer.

ELLE: How would you describe the music you do?

JdlB: It is pop. Some people say it is dream pop. I’d say it is also kind of barock, because of all the harmonies.

ELLE: What do you listen to these days?

JdlB: The album by Gang Gang Dance, Eye Contact.

ELLE: How would you describe your style?

JdlB: A designer friend of mine called it “dreamcore,” it sounds silly but I thought it was quite accurate. I like to mix old dreamy lace or vintage pieces with more tough and hardcore structured ones.

ELLE: Who are your favorite designers?

JdlB: Zac Posen, Riccardo Tisci, Alexander McQueen, Vivienne Westwood, Charlotte Olympia and PPQ .

ELLE: Do you have ideas for your wedding dress?

JdlB: Yes, I am very lucky to have a friend like Zac Posen who offered to make the dress. I couldn’t be happier, he is incredibly talented and refine. Plus it is really fun to do it together.
