It comes as no surprise that Michelle Trachtenberg made an appearance at New York Fashion Week: she is on the fabulously fashionable show Gossip Girl after all. What is interesting is that we caught Michelle front row at the Rebecca Taylor show, who is a good friend of Michelle’s, and received a tip-off about a possible future collaboration between the two. “She and I are actually going to be doing a collaboration in the future. Probably a capsule collection. Not the near future because these things take time, but that’s really exciting. I mean, she’s the epitome of girly glam; she’s sophisticated and romantic. It’s pretty much the only thing you want to wear on a date,” said Michelle Trachtenberg. A capsule collection that’s a mix between Rebecca Taylor’s girly glam and Michelle’s rock chic style? In her latest flick Easy A, Emma Stone rocks a red “A” on her chest to proudly portray a modern Hester Prynne from The Scarlett Letter. Though it didn’t fare favorably for her in the film, the rosy color is working wonders for the 22-year old on the red carpet. Stone wore a two-toned Lanvin spring 2011 dress ( see it on the runway) with a one-shouldered coral bodice and a cranberry floor-length skirt to last night’s BAFTA Awards. A leather belt lends structure to the flowy dress, while touches of gold from her accessories and jewelry pull the look together beautifully. Stone was up for the Orange Rising Star Award against Gemma Arterton, Andrew Garfield, Aaron Johnson, and Tom Hardy, who took home the award. Apparently there is to be a film adaption of the novel “The Carrie Diaries” by Candace Bushnell, a sort of prequel to the SATC movies. And apparently, according to the rumor mill, Blake Lively is being taken under consideration to play the young Carrie Bradshaw. We can totally see it. As a kooky, girl-next-door, fashionista, Blake Lively would do a great job. But what do you think? And the real question is, who will play the young Samantha, Miranda and Charlotte?

Photo: Retna Designers gain inspiration from many different things. Politics, culture, music, and Justin Bieber’s hair. Never say never! The teen sensation, whose 3D movie Never Say Never comes out in theaters on February 11th, is the muse behind Barbara Tfank’s New York Fashion Week presentation. Barbara Tfank is the designer behind Michelle Obama’s incredible sense of style and victim of Bieber fever. Tfank told Style.com, “It has a sixties reference that works well with my clothes.” The designer’s show will have female models dressed in denim, leather, and wigs inspired by the Bieber cut.

Jil Sander, Imaxtree Unexpected stripes are popping up in unexpected places for spring 2011. Made chic made Coco Chanel nearly a century ago and worn since by fashion royalty like Brigitte Bardot, the Breton fisherman look has officially been reincarnated. With more options than ever, there’s no reason not to get on board for this wearable trend. Prada and Sonia Rykiel turned out mega-watt stripes in bright, showstopping colors, while Jil Sander and Haider Ackermann played off a more demure seaside theme, updating classic navy and white in modern silhouettes. Some designers, like Céline and Jason Wu, stuck with the motif’s casual, laid-back origin. But Issey Miyake, Clements Ribeiro, and others dressed their stripes up with light fabrics, mixed prints and serious heels. Then, of course, there’s always that timeless Saint James or agnès b. t-shirt waiting in the back of your closet.

It can be a pain when every new hair trend seems to require curly-haired girls to pull out the straightening iron and blow dryer. But don’t worry—it’s time to put those hot tools down, because this season’s ushering in four hot new hairstyles that require curls!
Badgley Mischka, Imaxtree A deep side part (hair barrette optional) is a polished look. Although this hairstyle is shown with volume only on the sides, which you can easily get by sleeping with damp hair in a tight ponytail, it would look just as lovely with entirely curly hair.
Marc Jacobs, Imaxtree For girls with already short hair (or looking to go shorter for spring) a cute ’30s style bob is a fashionable option. This wash-and-go style is great for the girl on the go.
Z Spoke by Zac Posen, Imaxtree For an edgier look the ruffled up-do is right on trend. Simply crop the sides and back of the hair short and keep it long on the top and front. If you’re not ready for the chop, fake it with long hair by twisting the back into a french twist, bobby pinning the “tail” forward, and smoothing the sides down with a dab of gel.

But it isn’t every day that someone takes it to the extreme—like a $15,000 couture dress with good old-fashioned blue jeans. Naturally, Karl Lagerfeld seems to be one of those few people capable of pulling off such a feat.At Chanel’s spring 2011 couture show, the Kaiser showed the world that some of the best couples are the oddest ones, sending out models swathed in the predictable taffeta and tweed, with denim hiding coyly underneath. The pants came in a wide range of colors, from rock-n-roll black to bubblegum pink—perfect for matching every outfit in your wardrobe (shop the look here!). And just in case things weren’t unpredictable enough, some were worn with the sheerest of sheer minis, so transparent that jeans were probably not such a bad idea. In a meeting with the press, Mr. Lagerfeld cited Chanel’s modern clients, who often pair classic coats with cut-offs, for this haute twist: “It’s not like the old days anymore and couture has to be able to change and adapt.” Just in time too—with brands like Céline and D&G including jeans in their collections, the look is becoming a major trend for spring 2011 onward.

- One of the more theatrical trends for spring is the turban. Pulling inspiration from the screen sirens of the ’40s and ’50s, the hippie vibe of the ’70s, and the culture of the Middle East, the simple addition of a turban—as seen at Jason Wu, Milly, and Issa’s spring 2011 shows—instantly creates a trend-savvy, globe-trotting ensemble.

While we’ve seen plenty of inspiration from the runway, there haven’t been that many people wearing it on the street. Will you be wearing a turban this spring? If you dare to try the trend on for size (which we dutifully encourage), here are a few tips for wearing a turban with sass and flair: Use a large, square scarf with a great pattern or your favorite color. A great place to look is at your local thrift store or even Good Will or Salvation Army (just be sure to wash it before covering your head in it), most of them have a bin of scarves priced at only a few dollars or less. Don’t don a costume to match your turban. Stay away from harem pants and Aladdin slippers—there’s no need to look like you walked off the set of Arabian Nights. Instead, keep it simple. A turban goes great with your favorite dress (think graduation parties, backyard BBQs, picnics…is it spring yet?) or even just jeans and a white tee. It’s a statement piece so let it shine. And accessorize with confidence.
