Quick Fixes
Hi Dollies!
One of my favorite things to do in my spare time is browse YouTube, and I’m particularly fascinated by some of the short film festivals and creators there. Recently, I watched one about time travel, but not in an unfamiliar, science-fiction context like you may expect, the creator applied it to a real-world situation. The concept: asking, "what if you used a time travel machine to continually introduce yourself to someone until you got it right?"
As someone who struggles with finding the courage to do exactly this for fear of messing up, I was really drawn to this idea. How nifty would it be, right? However, this creator also explored the consequences of using this quick fix. I won’t spoil the twist, but it cleverly demonstrates the ‘too good to be true’ thought.
We so often crave easy fixes to our real-world problems without thinking about the ramifications of these actions. Sure, sometimes it’s fine, even helpful, to find some shortcuts and skip past technicalities, but the world is structured the way it is for a reason. It’s standards like these which keep everything running smoothly.
Quick fixes are desirable to dream about, but it’s also important to stay realistic. Unfortunately, some things in life aren’t going to be smooth sailing; sometimes it has to be a slow and arduous process to get what you want. But don't freak out! I find a nice resolution in this quote by Les Brown:
“Do what is easy and your life will be hard. Do what is hard and your life will become easy.”
Rest assured, hard work pays off. It may not feel great today and you may wish for a quick fix, but when you succeed, knowing you deserve what you achieved because you worked hard for it makes it all the more sweeter.
Take care,
♡ Joanne
