Dear Future Me...
Have you ever written a letter to yourself? It's not a letter you'll put in the mailbox and actually send, but something you tuck away and read when you're older. I love writing these letters to future self, and every birthday, I write a new one for me to open in five or ten years. I've read some of the ones I wrote when I was younger, and they were kind of funny, but they also reminded me of a lot of things I'd forgotten.
So what should you write in a letter to your future self?
- What are some major events in your life right now? Is someone getting married or moving away? Do you have a big exam coming up? What about your hobbies, your volunteer work, your vacation plans?
- Who's in your friend group? Sad as it may seem, you might lose touch with some of the friends you have now. Write about each of your close friends and what you love about them. Write about any new friends you have, or people you hope to become friends wih.
- What are your dreams for the future? Write about where you think you'll be when you read the letter in the future. Will you be rich and famous? Will you be married with kids? Maybe you'll be travelling the world, curing cancer, or working your dream job.
- What's important to you right now? Remind your future self about what you care about. Family, friends, morals - depending on what happens in your life, you might start to forget some of those things. Tell yourself what you love most about your life, and what to do if you're going through a rough time.Where do you think you'll be in five years? Ten? Twenty? Only time will tell, and writing a letter to your future self will help you connect your past, present, and future.
Til next time!
