Endangered: Green Sea Turtle
Did you know that the Green Sea Turtle is endangered? In 2004 there were approximately only 85,000 Green Sea Turtles left and now, over ten years later, they are critically endangered worldwide.
Facts about Green Sea Turtles:
-When born, Green Sea Turtles are only 5 cm long.
-They can grow up to 1.5 meters in length and can weigh over 300 kg.
-Green Sea Turtles are able to hold their breath for hours at a time. Since they are cold blooded, they can hold their breath for longer in cold water.
-Females lay eggs every 2-4 years once they are mature.
What you can do to help the Green Sea Turtle:
Make sure you do not purchase products made from this endangered species. Also, if you live an area that green turtles use for nesting, you can lead a community effort to protect the beaches they nest on. It is important that we help this species, because if we don't, who will?
